Welimora paced in her room, she really did not want to go to the war meeting this afternoon. She knew she'd have to change into some hideous dress with an empire waist that had belonged to her mother. She shook her black hair angrily and sat on her bed. Her door opened to reveal Kozi. "Can't you knock first?" she asked him. "Sorry. I sensed something wrong," he said coming over and sitting next to her. "That's original," Welimora said. He shrugged. "What's wrong, Mora?" "I don't want to go to the meeting," she mumbled in reply. "Why not?" Kozi asked, even though he knew the reason. "I am not what everyone thinks," Mora said. "I am not this innocent child who obeys every little demand. I am not this weak little girl who loses in Agni Ki to a girl three years younger that has a disability. I am not a girl who has manners and does not speak out of turn. I am not that person, Kozi! But that is what they expect from me. I do not obey everything, and when I do, I do it unwillingly. I lost on purpose to that girl, because I felt sorry for her. I have manners, yet I'd rather choose not to use them. I speak my mind." "If you feel this strongly about everything around here, why do you not leave?" Kozi asked. "I could never do that to Mom, never. That and I like to know what's going on in the world." "Mom would accept what you do as long as you explain to her why. I do expect to see you at the meeting. I know that is your decision." Kozi left and Mora had her room to herself once more. She scowled; everything Kozi had said was true. She would choose to go to the war meeting and dress in the hideous dress, but tomorrow, she could do what she wanted to once more.
Mora entered the hall cautiously and took her assigned seat next to Kozi. He nodded in acknowledgment to her presence, then turned his attention back to the man at the head of the table, their father. "We have news from the Fire Lord that the siege was useless. The rebels are now in prison," their father said. A cheer erupted from the table. Mora looked scathingly at everyone who cheered. Her father took on a sad little smile then continued. "I have some bad news, however. The avatar is alive," he said. The whole table gasped, including both Kozi and Mora. "He escaped the fire nation and as far as we know, is on the run once more. Fire Lord Ozai has asked us to stay on alert for the avatar and three others he is traveling with. Their pictures are up on every post that is available. Guards will be posted at the entrance of our city to keep it safe from the rebels. Every house will be guarded to keep those inside safe." Mora frowned in response to the lie. No, not every house would be guarded, only those of the people who were truly part of the fire nation. No one of the earth kingdom would be guarded. If anything they would be living worse than before, with unnecessary arrests and executions. "Dismissed," said her father. This was not good...

The day following the war meeting, Mora decided to go to the village's market. She had little food in her room anymore. She hated the food the cooks made. Mora pulled her hair out of its bun. She pulled on a long black cloak, and put up the hood. A shadow passed over her face. She would be able to leave now. Welimora crept from her room and pressed herself against the wall. There were no guards marching up and down the halls as there usually was. This worried her. She walked casually down the stairs and toward the servants door. No one would expect her to go through there. Except her brother, who was waiting for her. "Mora..." he warned. "I'm not in the mood for your warnings. Leave me alone," she said. "I cannot. Just because I cannot see you doesn't mean I can't hear you. Mom and Dad will punish you if you leave without a guard. "Kozi, I do not need a guard. I am simply going for a walk," Mora told him. "Through the village!" Kozi exclaimed. "Yes, I cannot lie to you, so I tell you, yes. I am going through the village! So leave me alone!" Fire flared up around her. Kozi shrank back. "I'm sorry." Kozi disappeared into the next room. It's not my fault he's blind, Mora thought opening the door. And she was off to the village.

Mora wrapped the cloak around herself tighter. Until she was out of the grounds of the palace, she couldn't take the chance of being seen. As soon as she was off the grounds she put her hood down. She looked above her head at the sun that shone directly ahead. If there was any trouble she had plenty of power to take care of it. No, she thought. I mustn't reveal myself. She swept quietly along the trail to the village. Relief swept over her as soon as she saw the village market. Little kids ran though the streets, weaving in and out of the stands, booths, and tables. Mora went down to a clothing shop. She needed something so that she would not stand out. "Hello, deary. Is there something I can help you with?" asked the woman behind the stand. "Er, yes, actually, there is," Mora said. "I need some clothing, something I can easily move and bend in." "Ah," said the woman nodding her head. "This is what you want, I think." The woman showed Mora a long ivy green dress that split up the sides. She also showed her brown leggings and ivy green slippers. "How much?" Mora asked, reaching for her purse. The woman told her how much and Mora paid her swiftly. "Thank you," Mora said walking away. The woman bowed. Mora walked around, carrying her new clothing until something caught her eye. It was a theater, the poster outside advertised an earthbending show. Filled with curiosity, she entered the theater. The show was to start soon, and she decided that before it happened she wanted to change so she didn't attract attention. She quickly found herself a spot to change and changed into the new clothing. The feel of it was odd and coarse and she felt oddly exposed. Mora put the cloak back on over top and hid her Fire Nation clothes in a plant. When she walked back into the theater, it was full of people. She found a seat in the front row and sat down. This was going to be interesting.

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the new and improved earthbending show!" came a voice in the theater. The theater became "you-can-hear-a-pin-drop" silent and the theater went dark. The stage was lit up. An older boy popped up from under the stage. "Please meet, Leo!" said the voice in the theater. Leo bowed to each side of the audience before standing up. "And in the other corner, meet Filara!" said the voice. A girl popped up from under the stage on the other side. She bowed to the applauding audience and turned to face Leo. "Now, enjoy the show!" screamed the voice. Filara and Leo took their stances. Filara made the first move, kicking the ground and making it split down the middle, right to where Leo was standing. But he wasn't standing there anymore. He stood behind Filara. He punched the ground with his fist, making a cylinder rock shoot out underneath Filara. She flew through the air, when she landed she went right through the stage and appeared ten feet in front of Leo. Both took on daring smiles. Leo punched rocks at her and she slid side to side, dodging the rocks, and kicking the rocks out of the way if they came to close. This went on and on, they never got hurt, even when they should have. Eventually, Filara fell (as far as Mora could tell, she fell on purpose, because the rock that was launched at her missed her by an inch), and the voice overhead was heard. "Filara is down! Leo wins!" said the voice. Then a new voice spoke, one that originated from Leo. "Who would like to be next? I need a volunteer from the audience," he said. A spotlight trailed over the audience, over people jumping up and down, telling Leo to pick them. Mora looked at them with a sneer, until the light landed on her. "How about you, Miss?" Leo asked. Mora pointed to herself, then shook her head. "Oh, come on now. What do you saw, my lovely audience? Should she do it?" asked Leo. A roaring yes went through the audience. Mora shrugged and climbed out of her seat. She walked quickly and quietly up the stairs. No bending, she told herself. Just dodge. "All right, before we begin, may I have your name?" Leo asked. Thinking it unwise to reveal her full name she said, "Mora." "All right then, Mora. Let's begin!" Leo stepped forward. Mora untied her cloak and it fell to the ground. Leo studied her for a minute, then shot a rock at her. She side-stepped it. He shot a rock at her head, she pushed herself to the ground. He shot one to the ground, and from a push-up position she pushed herself up and into a back flip. "Fight back!" Leo yelled. Mora shook her head. He launched rock after rock at her, each time she held her arms behind her back and ducked, leaped, and flipped out of the way of the rocks. "Why won't you fight?" he asked. "I do not fight, for I do not need to. Your technique is restless and unsettling. I do not need to bend to defeat you," Mora replied, now only a few feet away from him. He launched a rock at her legs, she jumped up into a straddle, she spun while she was up there, and kicked him in the chest. He fell backward onto the hard rock. "I can't believe it, folks," said the voice overhead. "We have a new winner!" The crowd erupted in applause. Mora went to Leo and stuck out her hand. He took it and she stood him up. "I suggest getting a better teacher, and practice, practice, practice," Mora said. She sauntered of the stage, feeling Leo's eyes on the back of her head the whole way. Before she went back home, she stopped at one of the stands selling fruit and bought some dried mangoes from a lady.
